Charlie and the Chocolate Factory postpones its opening

The musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was scheduled to open on October 31 and then on December 16 at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Paris. The production has finally pushed back its opening date to September 23, 2021.

The current health situation and the size of the production have forced the producer, Alexandre Piot, to postpone the start of performances.

The performers and creative team had already started rehearsals a month ago, as can be seen below.

The arrival in Paris of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was announced as the back-to-school event! We will have to wait a little before pushing open the door of the mysterious Willy Wonka's chocolate factory!
In the meantime, back to the musical Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Charlie and the chocolate factory : What is it about ?

The story follows young Charlie who wins a golden ticket to the mysterious Wonka Chocolate Factory. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to feast on treats that are unaffordable for the Bucket family.
Charlie and his grandfather visit the chocolate factory accompanied by Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee and Augustus Gloop.
They discover a magical world filled with amazement, innovation, sweet treats and Oompa-Loompas.
But young visitors are starting to let their greed and selfishness take over. We then discover that all is not as sweet as it seems. However, Willy Wonka has a very special surprise for the child who will manage not to succumb to all the temptations of this magical world.

Roald Dahl's novel adaptation: a hit on Broadway and the West End

Roald Dahl's children's novel was released in 1964. The book was quickly adapted for film and television. Among these adaptations, there are two great films. We remember the incredible performance of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in the 1971 film. Then in 2005, the film by Tim Burton, with Johnny Depp in the role of the chocolatier, was a hit. It will bring in nearly $ 470 million at the box office!

The novel was then adapted into a musical in 2013. The show spent more than 3 years in London before flying to New York. The musical has had a series of tours in the United States: what a success!
They are Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (to whom we owe Hairspray and the series Smash) who sign the score. Their music is in addition to film titles such as the hit " pure imagination"
