New report for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Hard blow for Charlie and the chocolate factory : the musical is forced to postpone again for its first performance.
During the night of March 6 to 7, a few hours after the announcement of the postponement, we saw large trucks loading the sets outside the Théâtre du Gymnase.

It was director Philippe Hersen and producer Alexandre Piot who announced the postponement on social networks:

A show with many twists and turns

In November 2019, we announced the arrival of the musical in Paris. In January and February 2020, the castings began, interrupted by confinement. In August, the casting was revealed, with Arnaud Denissel as Willy Wonka.

Six months ago, in September, we announced that the musical would be played in March. Here we are, in March, one week before the supposed opening of the show, once again announcing the postponement of Charlie and the chocolate factory. This second postponement therefore marks one year between the original opening date (scheduled for September 21, 2020) and the postponed date.

Back to the start of the 2021 school year

This show being a new production on the Parisian scene, it would have been unthinkable for the producers to let the show play at a reduced level and with chances of the theaters being closed again. Charlie therefore joins the other great musical shows that will open in September: The Lion King, Starmania, Noah the strength to live, The ProducersEtc. ...

A success on Broadway and in London. And in Paris?

Small reconstruction! Roald Dahl's book went through many film adaptations before arriving on stage in 2013. Success in London for 3 years, the musical arrived on Broadway where the reception was more mixed.
We had seen the show in London and like the critics, we were hungry for more. Visually, the show was absolutely fabulous! But in terms of the pace, there were some delays. For example the fact that we do not enter the Chocolate Factory until the second act. It took a good hour and a half for the show to be in full swing in terms of sets, choreography and humor! In addition, by the title "Pure Imagination", which is part of the soundtrack of the 1971 film, the music was not very memorable.

But all the same, we have a good time, eyes wide open and stomachs hungry!
In Paris, let's hope that the show is as gourmet and that it pleases as much!

We do not yet have many images of what is happening behind the curtain of the Théâtre du Gymnase. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the show when he was in London:
