Jesus Christ Superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of Jesus in the last days before his crucifixion. Loosely based on the gospels, the story focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people of Israel, and the rulers of Rome. We discover the relationship between Judas and Jesus, as well as between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The musical focuses on Judas' struggle to make the decision to betray Jesus as well as human psychology, the fear and anger of Jesus to accept his role as leader and martyr.
The musical is almost entirely sung, bathed in rock, gospel and funk themes. It is sometimes considered a modern rock opera.
