Motown follows the career of Berry Gordy and the creation of his empire: Motown Records.
The story begins in 1983, on the 25th anniversary of Motown, and Berry Gordy looks back on his career. Inspired by his childhood hero, black American boxer Joe Louis, young Berry has big dreams.
After a few years working on an automobile assembly line in Detroit, he wants to bring together a socially and racially divided country, thanks to music.
With a loan of 800 dollars from his family, Berry created his label: Motown was born!
Berry signs a series of innovative artists including Diana Ross and The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and many more.
But when the Vietnam War draws near, America is at a cultural turning point. Berry realizes that the time has come to create something bigger: to make music that can get the whole world to keep pace.
