In Germany in 1891: a world where adults hold all the cards. Young Wendla explores the mysteries of her body and wonders aloud where babies are coming from, until mom tells her to shut her up and put on a proper dress. Elsewhere, the bright and fearless young Melchior defends his pal Moritz - a boy traumatized by puberty. One afternoon in the woods - Melchior and Wendla meet by accident, and feel a new desire. As they hug each other, Moritz fails his exams and is kicked out of school.
When his only adult friend, Melchior's mother, ignores his cry for help, he commits suicide, not hearing help from his friend Ilse.
The directors pin the "crime" of Moritz's suicide on Melchior and expel him. Wendla tells her mother that she is pregnant.
Electric and vibrant celebration of youth and rebellion, Spring Awakening merges questions of morality, sexuality and rock '&' roll into a story that packs a powerful emotional boost.
