In New York, young journalism graduate Andrea Sachs is hired to work as an assistant to Miranda Priestley. Miranda is the ruthless director of fashion magazine Runway. Andrea, who dreams of becoming a journalist, sees this opportunity as a temporary professional challenge. First assistant, Emily, advises Andrea on their boss's preferences, and stylist Nigel helps Andrea dress more appropriately to the environment. Andrea changes her attitude which ends up affecting her private life and her relationship with boyfriend Nate, family and friends. Ultimately, Andrea learns that life is about choices.
