The life

Summary of the musical The life :

Queen is a prostitute who works on 42nd Street to support her man, Fleetwood. After years of selling her body on the streets, Queen has saved up enough money for them to escape. But when she returns to her hotel room, she discovers that Fleetwood has used her savings to pay off her drug debts. Meanwhile, Jojo, an opportunist, and Fleetwood have befriended an attractive young girl, Mary, who has just arrived from Minnesota. When Fleetwood offers that Mary stay with them, Queen tries to persuade the girl to return home. But Fleetwood and Jojo have already lured her with promises of money and fame. That night, Queen is arrested by the police. She learns that while she was spending the night in jail, Fleetwood, Jojo and Mary had a threesome.

Furious, Queen leaves Fleetwood. She is soon taken in by a rival pimp named Memphis. It doesn't take long for him to reveal his true nature, threatening to kill Queen and Fleetwood if she ever tries to leave him. When Queen attempts to warn Fleetwood of these threats, Memphis brutally defeats her. Sonja, one of her prostitute friends, buys Queen a bus ticket so that she can escape New York. But before she can get on board, she is confronted with both Fleetwood and Memphis. Only one of the three will come out alive.
