The Queen's Theater will be renamed Sondheim Theater!

For the 90 years of the American composer, Cameron Mackintosh will rename the Queen's Theater in Sondheim Theater. This theater hosts the show Les Misérables 30 over years.
The theater will officially change its name in March 2020.

Stephen Sondheim (at the piano) and Leonard Bernstein rehearse the actresses of the musical West Side Story in 1957 (for which Sondheim wrote the lyrics).

He is the composer of musicals: Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, A Little Night Music, Follies, Company, Assassins, PASSION, Merrily We Roll Along… and many others! His work has been represented around the world.

Throughout his career, he received 8 Grammy Awards and 8 Tony Awards (a record!). He is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize and a Laurence Olivier Award. He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015; prize awarded by the American president for outstanding efforts in the cultural field.

 

The theater that hosts School of Rock in London was renamed the Gillian Lynne Theater in June 2018. Unfortunately, the choreographer of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera died a few days after the name change.
