Little Shop of Horrors will be playing at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

Good news for all fans of Seymour and Audrey, Little Shop of Horrors is part of the Regent's Park Open Air Theater 2018 season!

Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's musical is one of five shows on offer for the season: it joins Peter Pan by JM Barrie, The Turn of the Screw by B. Britten, a new musical version of As You Like It by W. Shakespeare and Dinosaur World Live created by D. Bond and M. Humpries.

A little bit of history

Little Shop of Horrors opens Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 and is based on the black humor film The Little Shop of Horrors by Roger Corman.

The story follows orphan Seymour, assistant at the neighborhood florist, secretly in love with his colleague Audrey. Seymour acquires a strange plant that needs blood to survive and quickly draws crowds to the florist. As the plant grows, Seymour finds it increasingly difficult to meet the demands of this “Feed Me” plant.
The story is cradled by the songs of three young girls and the love stories between Audrey and her abusive boyfriend and Audrey and Seymour.

There are the classics "Skid Row", "Somewhere That's Green" and "Suddenly Seymour".

The production was critically acclaimed and won numerous accolades in 1982, including the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical, the Outer Critics Circle Award.
The musical was adapted into a film in 1986, directed by Frank Oz, starring Rick Moranis as Seymour and Ellen Greene as Audrey and received two Academy Awards.

The new production

Maria Aberg (Dr. Faustus, Fantastic Mr. Fox) made her directorial debut at Regent's Park Open Air Theater with designs by Tom Scutt, musical supervision by Tom Deering and lighting by Howard Hudson. The cast has not yet been announced.

Places are available in Priority Booking on November 8 and in Public Booking on December 6 on the site of the Regent's Park Open Air Theater
