The Amélie musical in London's West End in May 2021

A bit of Paris in London: the musical Amélie arrives in the West End on May 20th. And this for 6 months!
After a UK tour and a few months at Other Palace in London in 2019, the musical has taken up residence at the Criterion Theater for the next 6 months. The performances will of course take place at a half gauge and with many strict sanitary measures.

I was lucky enough to see the musical in London in 2019, you can read the review ofAmélie here. Spoiler: it's one of my favorite musicals!

From movie to musical

As you might have guessed, the musical is adapted from the movie The fabulous destiny of Amelie Poulain, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and in which we find Audrey Tautou and Matthieu Kassovitz.
A first stage version had seen the light of day on Broadway but had not seduced the spectators. For the English resumption of the show, everything had been reworked. This Amélie 2.0 includes a magnificent score by Daniel Messé and Nathan Tysen and a staging by Michael Fentiman.
What is particularly strong with the show is that you can feel the work of a troop. All the actors are musicians and never leave the stage. Their instruments populate the stage and they accompany Amélie's adventures with music, song, dance and above all with humor.

A brilliant distribution

It is the superb Audrey Brisson who holds the main role. The young Canadian is absolutely sensational. From the top of its 1,50m, it captivates the spectators for 2 hours of show.
She is joined by Chris Jared, Sioned Saunders, Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Rachel Dawson, Oliver Grant, Caolan McCarthy, Samuel Morgan-Grahame. As well as Kate Robson-Stuart, Jack Quarton, Jez Unwin, Johnson Willis, Nuwan Hugh Perera, Miiya Alexandra, Robyn Sinclair and Matthew James Hinchliffe.
