The Cabaret musical will reopen the Lido

A few weeks after the legendary Lido show closed, it was announced than the musical Cabaret would be the venue's first show. Here's everything we know about the show and the new Lido.

The Lido 2 Paris, a place dedicated to musicals

For nearly 70 years, the Lido, located on the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, hosted cabaret shows honoring Paris. It entertained tourists with musical and dance performances as well as dinner-show options. But he suffered greatly following the health crisis. In early 2022, the Accor group bought the Lido from Sodexo.
In May, Jean-Luc Choplin (former director of the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Théâtre Marigny) was appointed to take over the management of the Lido. A fervent defender of super-productions worthy of Broadway, Jean-Luc Choplin intended the Lido to be the mecca of musicals in Paris. To mark this revival, the theater is renamed Lido 2 Paris.

Cabaret, a bold choice

A nod to the Lido's past: the first musical to inaugurate Le Lido 2 Paris will be Cabaret.
Written by Kander & Ebb in 1966, Cabaret is considered by many to be one of the greatest musicals. Its film adaptation by choreographer Bob Fosse introduced Liza Minnelli in the role of Sally Bowles. Additionally, the songs "Cabaret," "Maybe This Time," and "Willkommen" are now anthems from the musical.

Currently on view in London, the rebellious version of Cabaret, reimagined by Rebecca Frecknall has won 7 Olivier Awards. In Paris, the show was staged in French in 2006 at the Folies Bergère. But this is the first time Cabaret will be staged in its original version in Paris! The show will therefore be in English with French surtitles.

At Lido 2 Paris, the musical Cabaret will open on December 1, 2022. You can already book your tickets. Places

Robert Carsen and a shock team

It is the director Robert Carsen who will sign this production. At the Théâtre du Châtelet, we could see his productions of Singin' in the Rain, My Fair Lady et street-scene. He will co-sign the scenography with Luis F. Carvalho (who is also the show's costume designer). We can also count on the choreographies of Fabian Aloise. He recently choreographed Evita in London and the new production of Wicked in Hamburg. No casting information has been released.
But the fact remains that we are in good hands for this new production of Cabaret !
